With 300 hp, the KTM X-Bow R drops its power-to-weight ratio to 2.63 kg/hp for increased efficiency and sportiness!

The 2-liter Audi block (used in the Audi S3 and TT) is retained, but placed 19 mm lower to optimize the center of gravity (-15 mm). Among the new features, a larger turbo has been fitted while direct injection is still in place. KTM can thus claim 300 hp at 6,300 rpm and 400 Nm at 3,300 rpm. No doubt about it, with only 780 kilos on the scale and a 6-speed gearbox with shortened ratios, the KTM X-Bow R is reaching for its crossbow.

But this is only reflected in the top speed which gains +15 km/h, while the 0 to 100 km/h “stagnates” at 3″9 because of the gear change now imposed by the short gearbox. It is therefore in the field of acceleration that the evolution is the most notable with the KTM X-Bow of 240 hp. Already spoiled on the carbon chassis side, the X-Bow R has been modified, especially on the driveshaft bearing attachment, thus reducing parasitic movements when re-accelerating and changing gear.

A lot of work has also been done on the suspension settings, inspired by racing techniques, without compromising the ease of riding that characterizes the KTM. This allows the 17″ and 18″ rims (205/40 R17 front and 225/40 R18 rear) to be in ideal contact with the road, and to guarantee excellent traction. This set, coupled with the autoblocker, guarantees a road behavior of a diabolical precision, able to delight the amateur of circuit outings. The only drawback is that although the brakes are efficient, the pedal feel, like on the “normal” X-Bow, is still as confusing as ever. Inside, the Keyless Go system is fun to use on this type of car. Otherwise, for the rest, you will need a helmet!…

Although KTM claims to have sold 500 units since 2008, only 17 were registered in Switzerland in 2009, and 9 in the first half of 2010. Prices for the current version range from 104’000 to 159’000 CHF.
