Detailed description

The Huayra has a central monocoque structure made of carbon-titanium (carbon fiber woven with titanium strands to achieve greater rigidity with minimal weight). The transmission is provided by a seven-speed sequential automatic gearbox designed for racing and mounted behind an original AMG 12-cylinder V-twin dry sump engine of 5,980 cc, supercharged by two turbochargers and developing 700 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque. It features progressive aerodynamics with moving front and rear elements that improve stability and braking while permanently limiting air friction. The brakes are ceramic, and the suspension is linked to the chassis with semi-chromium molybdenum steel frames that provide maximum rigidity and minimum weight, helping to dissipate energy on impact.
That turbocharged engine and the smart transaxle are perhaps the two most controversial aspects of this Huayra, whereas the soul of the Zonda was its massive 7.3L naturally aspirated V12. Would the turbos surely mark the end of the V12’s intoxicating sound and quick response to acceleration ?

And in a world filled with ultra-sophisticated dual-clutch gearboxes like the Veyron’s, wasn’t the weight gain from using a “single” clutch Xtrac gearbox a high price to pay for the Zonda’s transmission perhaps.

Nevertheless, 730 horsepower, 1000 Nm and 1,350 kg unladen weight are data that leave little doubt about the Huayra’s new philosophy.
