Peugeot and Pleyel have teamed up to create a futuristic piano as sleek as a “supercar”.

Made primarily of wood, with a steel lid, the piano boasts impressive sound quality. An innovative mechanism allows the piano to be lowered to the same level as the keyboard, giving the audience a view of the pianist’s hands.
Profiled like a Zaha Hadid sculpture, the new Pleyel arrives where it is not expected. It will be featured on the Peugeot stand at the Paris Motor Show. Peugeot Design Lab, the global design studio set up by the manufacturer in 2010, is thus highlighting its first non-automotive collaboration with an external client
For the only French piano manufacturer, the Peugeot Design Lab team has worked on the instrument by revisiting one by one all its stylistic codes (volume, architecture, ergonomics). Pleyel and Peugeot have worked together on several innovations. Peugeot Design Lab had the idea of aligning the keyboard with the piano lid. Pleyel was left with the task of redesigning a complete mechanism in order to preserve the DNA of the company: the richness of its sound, romantic, colorful and voluptuous.

Another novelty is the lid on levers: thanks to an idea borrowed from the automobile tailgate, the ugly stick has disappeared, as have the traditional heavy and ungainly feet. With a cantilevered monopod, the instrument levitates like a yogi. Purists be reassured, if the cover and the foot were made of carbon fiber known for its flexibility and lightness, the body and the soundboard of this half-tail (2.41 m) are still made of wood.
