The Rhodium Prodigy Birdfish is a limited edition artisanal electric guitar that is handcrafted by German luthier Ulrich Teuffel, nicknamed “the DaVinci of guitar design.” It was unveiled at MB&F M.A.D. Gallery – the same gallery that has brought to the world the avant-garde MB&F HM5 and classic-looking MB&F LM1.

An industrial designer by trade, Teuffel builds all his guitars in his Bavarian atelier. As with his previous masterpieces, like the Tesla and Niwa guitars, the Rhodium Prodigy Birdfish is a classic modular electric guitar in disguise. It bears an unorthodox look, carved from two solid blocks of acoustically-optimal aluminum that make up the “bird” and the “fish.”

Its alder-wood tone bars, pickups and maple neck are all attached to the “bird” and the “fish” while the control unit, with a five-way switch, forms the head of the “bird.” The design allows it to react to subtle string vibrations, resulting in a distinct percussive sound.

The Rhodium Prodigy Birdfish is a reinterpretation of its predecessor the Birdfish, which was first offered at the Frankfurt Music Fair in 1995, and has since been used by leading musicians such as David Torn, Henry Kaiser, Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Page Hamilton.
