More informationDetailed description
The Seaboard is a new musical instrument which would be the evolution of the standard piano. Composed of a keyboard and soft keys, its characteristic lies in the fact that it allows to produce many sound variations according to the way in which one presses on the keys. A clever mix between acoustic and digital music that allows you to control pitch, volume and timbre with your fingertips.
A new musical keyboard called Seaboard Grand allows the musician to manipulate the sound of the keys while playing thanks to effects integrated into its new generation keys.
Produced by British manufacturer Roli, the Seaboard Grand looks like an electric keyboard, but with a much more futuristic twist.
It allows the pianist to alter the sound thanks to effects on the pitch of the note, its volume and its timbre, because the keys are sensitive to pressure and thus allow to modulate the sound.
This intuitive and extremely precise system in each key is called SEA by the manufacturer, an acronym of “Sensory”, “Elastic” and “Adaptive”.
The Seaboard Grand will debut at the SXSW music and high-tech festival in Austin, Texas, on March 14. It will first be released in a limited edition of 88 units, each named after a musical note.
In a studio tucked away on a small street in a trendy area of East London lives a team, led by Roland Lamb, known as Roli Labs . Roland has designed and developed the first rib, a multi-dimensional instrument that seems to be changing the way we play and interact with the piano keyboard style very soon.
Roli Labs have been featured on the BBC, The Guardian and won a prestigious award at this year’s SXSW.
