-In a few lines can introduce your company ? Created by whom, since when ?
Ciclotte has been created in 2009 by the designed Luca Schieppati, a young designer from Milan.
It is the evolution of Ciclò, an innovative prototype of a monowheel city bike coinceived for sustainable mobility, now part of the permanent collection of the Italian Design Museum (La Triennale) in Milan.
Previously manufactured by the Lamiflex Group, it will be produced by a dedicated company which will take care of the important line extension which will take place in the next months.
-How did you have this idea to create an original exercise bike ?
Ciclotte breaks the rules of gym equipment’s design that have always emphasized only functional aspects, to address a target market of progressive, dynamic users that appreciate both physical and aesthetic lines.
Ciclotte’s concept was created in fact from the need to introduce design into everyday living, a real expression of contemporary living where work and relaxation, exercise and entertainment share a single dimension, within fluid spaces where all objects can interact with each other .
Thanks to its essential lines, inspired by ergonomics, Ciclotte is a fitness tool and a furniture complement that can be integrated into the most varied living contexts: home, office, gym and outdoors.
The large wheel of Ciclotte is the heart of the project. A large circle reminiscent of Monocycles from the end of the 1800’s, which has been transformed into an object of superior engineering.
Ciclotte has been manufactured using exceptional materials like carbon, steel and glass fibers and represents a complete innovation in the fitness sector, thanks to the unique technology of the epicycloids transmission system, which has been designed to faithfully reproduce the dynamics and performance of on-road cycling.
And how long will it take to realize this product ?
The engineering and prototyping process took around 2 years. Now it nearly takes around 3 months to realize the carbon fibre and the mechanic components used by each unit, that are then all hand-assembled to get a perfect Ciclotte.
-How much do you think sell Ciclotte this year in 2016 ? Are there countries more enthusiasm for this product ?
Also this year we should sell around 100 unique and dedicated units: the best markets for the product are USA, China and Hong Kong , Russia and more in general Western Europe.
We expect an important increase in sales volumes when the line extension will be launched in the market.
-Can you tell us few words about the different models of Ciclotte and price range ?
The range of the line is composed by the classic model in carbon and glass fiber (with a price of around 9.000 euro) and its sea-salt marine version for yachts (with a price of 11.000 euro), while beginning from 2013 a new model with frame in steel (with a price of 7.000 euro) has been launched together with a kit of accessories for iPad and iPhone which is able to integrate Ciclotte with an iPad or iPhone in order to simulate a ride on a road or on a path/trail, or just to watch a movie and listen to the music.
-What is your vision for the future ?
Besides keeping on producing the current version which will remain the top of the range, we are now studying a brand extension composed by a set of barbells and weights which will share the same philosophy of Ciclotte and that will also maintain the use of carbon fiber, the magnets and the unmistakable and iconic “circle-of-live” shape. Together with them we are planning to launch probably next April a very interesting second version of Ciclotte …
